It is with sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Ms. Barbara “Mag” Hawkins.


Ms. Hawkins passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.


Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.

“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8 

Mrs. Barbara Jean Hawkins was a light in this world, living as a beacon of Christ’s love. Through her humility and unwavering trust in the Lord, she touched countless lives. Barbara Jean found joy in service, guided by Philippians 1:21, ‘For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.’ Though we mourn her earthly absence, we take comfort in knowing she is now with her Savior, free from pain and full of eternal joy. 

Barbara Jean Hawkins was born May 3, 1949, in Lee County, JD and Vicy Mason. On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, she peacefully made her heavenly departure at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. 

Barbara’s educational journey started in Lee County and ended in Darlington County. She pursued further education after relocating to Chicago.

 Barbara Jean was raised in a household that fostered a strong work ethic. Her professional workforce biography included nursing care at Cuneo Hospital, an Occupational therapist at Columbus Hospital, a machine operator at RBC Bearing, and a breakfast prep employee at Hilton Tru Hotel.

 Barbara was a member of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She was true to herself and to God, never pretending to be anything but the caring soul she was.

 Barbara loved life. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, cooking, and baking. Her greatest joy was being around her grandkids and family. She also found pleasure in helping others. Barbara always carried joy in her heart. Barbara Jean served with a humble heart, never seeking recognition but always making a difference. 

Barbara Jean was preceded in death by her parents JD and Vicy Lee Mason; sons Christopher Hawkins and Charles L. Hawkins; a brother LD Mason; sisters Ethel Mae (D.W.) Wilson, Josielene Brailey, and Sarah Murray; sister-in-law Mary Mason; and the love of her life Sylvester Almore.

 Barbara Jean is survived by loved ones who will miss her deeply and honor her memory every day: Daughters Linda Hawkins, Teresa Hawkins (Johnathan Currin) of Chicago, Shirley Hawkins; daughter-in-law Louretha Hawkins; Three special sons Andre Brown, Carl Mason and Mario Hoover; Grandchildren Shontay Hawkins, J’Lesa Hawkins, DeAndre (India) Hawkins, Maurice Holmes, Brittany Hawkins, Andrea (Andrew) Jackson, Erien Starnes, Keyonta Hawkins, Asan Hawkins, and Promise Hawkins; Great Grandchildren Marquise, Kamorrie, LaShon, Legend, and Caleb; Siblings Ciron (PK) Mason, Argaree Cook, Dorothy Cooley, Allen Mason, Andrew (Betty) Mason, Ronnie Mason, Julious (Kimberly) Mason, Sandra Mason all of Hartsville SC and Herbert (Mary Ann) Mason of Chicago IL; Brother-in-Law Calvin Murray; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close relatives and friends. 

Spread your wings and fly proudly, Barbara Jean Hawkins. You have earned your heavenly reward.
