“ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Bishop Levi Henry was born on September 19, 1939, to the late Titus Henry and Luneed Allen. Affectionately known as “Speedy” by his friends and family, Bishop Henry was renowned for his dedication as a provider. He quietly departed this life on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 2312 E. Home Ave. in Hartsville, South Carolina.
Bishop Henry was raised in Ashland, South Carolina where he received his early education. He consistently devoted himself to prayer, prioritizing spiritual reflection over scientific study. He often stated that his degree was in “Kneelology” rather than theology. He placed supreme importance on communion with God.
After his formative years, Bishop Levi Henry relocated to Philadelphia, PA. There, he met Valeria Aiken, and together they built their life in the city before moving to Fayetteville, North Carolina.
During this period of his life, Bishop Henry took on various jobs, demonstrating his commitment to providing for his family and community. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own business, Levi Tree Service, where he served as the Sole Proprietor. This venture reflected his dedication to hard work and self-sufficiency. Following the success of his business, Bishop Henry relocated to Spring Lake, North Carolina while continuing his professional and ministerial journey.
Bishop Henry began attending New Galilee COGICJ after being encouraged by Deacon McCrae. There, he became a member and was called by God into ministry under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Ford, Jr. Later, Bishop Henry teamed up with Elder Juan Bautista, and they were known as the “Sons of Thunder,” preaching the gospel in various locations.
Bishop Henry experienced continued growth as he undertook significant responsibilities. He advanced from Elder to Pastor and, following spiritual guidance, established Levi Temple COGICJ in Hartsville, South Carolina. Eventually he relocated from Spring Lake, North Carolina to Hartsville, South Carolina to further his ministerial work. Mother Valeria Henry provided substantial support to the ministry until her passing in 1995.
On November 17, 2012, Pastor Henry was elevated to the office of Bishop, following the Apostolic and Episcopal procedures and holy standards of The Word of God Fellowship International Inc.
Bishop Henry remained dedicated to his service to God, persevering despite challenges he encountered. He married Tammy Jackson of Hartsville, South Carolina, who supported him in his ministry until her passing in 2020.
Bishop Henry dedicated himself wholeheartedly to leading the Temple of Deliverance (formerly Levi Temple) congregation. Throughout his duration as pastor, he provided spiritual guidance, support, and leadership to his church community. Bishop Henry remained steadfast in his service, continuing to shepherd his congregation with faith and commitment until his health began to decline.
Bishop Henry is preceded in death by: his parents, Titus Henry and Luneed Moore; four sisters: Anna Margaret Washington, Sylvia Myers, Gloria Threet, and Veronica Howard; and his brother, Leroy Henry.
He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy that continues with: his brother, Isaac (Joyce) Henry of Tampa, Florida; daughters, Valeria Gladden, of the home, and Lesha Henry of Hartsville, South Carolina; sons, Richard Harris of Hartsville, South Carolina, and Levi (Regina) Henry Jr. of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; special grandson, Lorenzo Gladden of Charlotte, North Carolina, along with seven other grandchildren: Terrence Regan, CSM Tasha Wright, Shameka Henry, Tiron Henry, Levi Henry III, Lesha Victoria Henry and Joshua Aubie Daye; and a host of greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
