Donta Garrus

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Mr. Donta Garrus.

Mr. Garrus passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center.

The family will receive friends at: 1878 Golf Course Road, Hartsville, SC.

Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.

Donta Marcell Garrus Sr. was born August 15, 1 972, in Baltimore Maryland. Son of the late Ms. Betty Garrus and Mr. Charles Jones. Donta was educated in the Maryland school system, and upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He actively served in the United States Navy from 1990-1994 and then served in the reserves for 16 years. 

He met his loving, devoted wife Shawn Garrus in middle school whom he was happily married to for 32 years. Donta was a Restaurant Manager in Hospitality at various facilities throughout Maryland. Donta could go to another state, and he would know someone that he use to work for or work with. 

He was a devoted husband, father, cousin, and friend to everyone. He lovingly had a special name and relationship with each of his children. Donta was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first grandchild in February 2026. Donta loved listening to music, watching movies, cooking, walking in the park, football and would have debates regarding the Baltimore Ravens. Donta was a die-hard Ravens fan. He had a warm smile that was extremely contagious. He would always speak to everyone, but he would especially make sure the older ones were okay. He was a very special person who tried to love and help everyone. He loved and looked forward to family gatherings. He would be so excited to attend.

 Donta passed on December 7, 2025 of natural causes. Donta began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and symbolized his dedication to Jehovah God on June 23, 2012. He enjoyed studying the Bible and explaining his beliefs to anyone that would listen. 

Preceding him in death was: his mothers: Betty Garrus and Catherine Fizer; father-in-law, Joe Willie Jordan; sister, Donna Franklin; brother, Anthony Garrus Sr., and honorary grandchild, Serenity Gross. 

Donta leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted, loving wife, Shawn Garrus; daughters: Shelby, Kiara, and Spring; sons: Donta Jr., Johnathan, and Keyon; brothers: Quinton Garrus, Charles Jones Il, and Keon Jones; father, Charles Jones (Gail), Mother-in-law, Mable Arthur; sister, Spring Brown; sisters-in-law: Kimberly Bell, Malaika Jordan, and Lilema (Maurice) Stewart; brothers-in-law: Michael (Tiffany) Arthur, Kenneth Jordan, Dwayne Jordan, and Eric Bundy; special, honorary parents: Gregory and Mary Livingston and Jacqueline Garrus; honorary children: Ashley Hackworth, Briana Gadacz, Sireana Young, Keywana Muse, Fre’Keira Jones, and India White; honorary brothers: Wayne (Lynette) Garrus, Derrick (Yvonne) Waller, Rodney (Shawnette) Shearin, David (Keisha) Byrd, Mike (Tarsha) Gary, Harvey (Leslie) Henley, Tetzel (Michelle) Turner, Chase (Lisa) Garrus, Ryan Garrus, and Ricky Witherspoon; honorary sisters, Lisa (Aubrey) Reverly and Livingston Craig; honorary grandchildren: L’rynn Diggs, Kyair Carter, Zoey Jones, NiAiza Ragin, Aylah Gaines, Sincere Gross, and Amara Samuels; special, dear friends to his heart, Adrienne Howard, Consuella Livingston Craig and Chante Atkinson; and his loving uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
