Edna Lou Mitchell

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ms. Edna Mitchell.  

Ms. Mitchell passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville, SC. 

The family will receive friends at:

604 S. 8th Street, Hartsville, SC.  

All services are entrusted to Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.

Mrs. Edna Lou Mitchell was born in Chesterfield County, on May 29, 1940 to Victoria Peoples Murphy and Baxter Murphy Sr. She attended the public schools of Chesterfield County. She retired from Coker College in 2002.

Mrs. Mitchell was a true Missionary at Jerusalem Baptist Church. She worked diligently on the Kitchen Committee. She enjoyed walking all around town. She also enjoyed listening to others talk.

Edna was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Baxter Jr.; and Willie Murphy; son-in-law, Michael Addison; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Surviving to cherish her memory are: her children: Gerald A. Mitchell, Gloria P. Mitchell, Penelope Mitchell, and Doris P. Mitchell Addison; four grandchildren: Denicia M. Mitchell of Washington, DC, Porsha M. Brown of Fairburn, Georgia, Corinthian Clair of Charlotte, NC and Gerkari A. Mitchell of Hartsville, SC; five great- grandchildren: De’Wesley McPhail of Hartsville, SC, Victoria S. Mitchell of Washington, DC, Desmond B. Brown and Byron Brown of Fairburn, GA and King N. Mitchell of Hartsville, SC; four sisters: Lottie Mitchell of Mt. Vernon, NY, Bishop Vivian M. Hutcheson of Miramar, FL, Shirley Johnson of Mt. Vernon, NY and Pastor Pam Hutcheson of Florida; sisters-in-law: Diane Murphy and Doris Murphy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other close relatives and friends.
