It is with great sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Mr. Ell Herman Chandler.
Mr. Chandler passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 6 PM at 511 Pleasant view Drive, Hartsville, SC.
Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
Today, we gather not only to mourn the passing of a beloved man, but to celebrate a life that was lived with purpose, humility, and unwavering faith.
Though our hearts ache, we rejoice that Ell Herman is now in the presence of his Savior, free from pain, surrounded by the glory of heaven. His legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to guide us until we meet again.
Mr. Ell Herman Chandler was more than a father, grandfather, friend, and brother in Christ—he was a living testimony of God’s grace. His life was a quiet sermon, preached not from a pulpit, but through the way he loved, served, and forgave.

Mr. Ell Herman Chandler was born on September 22, 1945, to Deola Stokes and Herma Chandler in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
Ell Herman graduated in 1963 from Elkhorn High School in McDowell County, West Virginia. After graduating from high school, he relocated to New York. He had a strong work ethic. He drove taxi cabs and trucks while living in New York to provide a better life for himself and his family. He later relocated to South Carolina. He retired from the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs after thirty years of dedicated service as a Direct Support Professional.
Ell Herman was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
Ell Herman was preceded in death by: his wife, Rosa Ellis Chandler; parents, Herman and Deola Chandler; sister, Ardean Bailey; and sons, Shannon Ferguson and Renardo Davis.
Surviving to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy are: his daughter: Monica Chandler (Quincy) Price; close friend, Ms. Martha Peterson; grandchildren: Ne’Vaeh Benjamin, Renardo Davis, Jr. and Aaliyah Ancrum; brother, David P. (Anna) Chandler of Cameron, NC; sisters, Mildred McCoy and Rosetta West of Stone Mountain, GA; sisters-in-law: Ruth Segars of Hartsville, SC, Dorothy Caldwell of Columbus, GA, and Delphine Whittaker of Neptune, NJ; brother-in-law, George (Gilda) Ellis of Amite City, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other close relatives and friends.
