                                                                        A Life Well Lived

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”          Psalm 23:4

We honor Jimmy Lewis Campbell, Jr. today, a person who walked closely with God and poured love into every life he encountered. Jimmy’s strength came from his faith, and his life was a testament to God’s promises. As Psalm 23 reminds us, ‘Jimmy now dwells in the house of the Lord forever.’ We grieve, but we also celebrate a life lived with purpose, knowing his spirit lives on in Christ and in our hearts.

Jimmy was born July 1, 1969, at Byerly Hospital in Hartsville, SC to Jimmy Lewis Campbell Sr. and Dorothy Green Campbell. He departed this earthly life on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Jimmy graduated from Hartsville High School in 1987, becoming the first Black Drum Major in the school’s history, a role he carried with pride and enthusiasm. Following high school, he pursued higher education at Winthrop University, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He was an honors graduate, graduating Cum Laude in his class. Jimmy was employed with the Department of Social Services as a workforce consultant. He was also a proud member of Kappa Apha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Jimmy was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. He lived a life rooted in faith, compassion, and service to others. His trust in God guided every step, and his gentle spirit brought comfort to many.

Jimmy was preceded in death by: his father, Jimmy Lewis Campbell, Sr.; grandparents: Toye and Gertrude Green and Hayward and Lucille Campbell; and sister, Laura Franette Campbell.

Jimmy leaves to cherish his lasting memories: a loving mother, Dorothy Green Campbell; siblings, Shawn Campbell of Hartsville, SC and Gary (Charlotte) Campbell of Charlotte, NC; aunts: Gwendolyn Green of Philadelphia, PA, Judy Jackson and Hazel Hartzog, both of Hartsville, SC, and Ruth Campbell and Pearline Hill, both of Virginia; best friend, Voncelle Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Though Jimmy is no longer with us, we rejoice knowing he is with the Lord, where his soul is at rest, and we will see him again one day.
