Kelvin Lashawn “Shawn” Prescott, 55, of Hartsville, South Carolina—formerly of Yonkers, New York—passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025. A devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Shawn will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and unwavering loyalty, which will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Born on July 26, 1970, in Yonkers, New York, Shawn was the cherished son of the late Edward and Carrie Bell Prescott. He was raised in a home grounded in faith, family, and hard work. Surrounded by the love and guidance of his late grandparents—Edward and Mazarene Prescott and James “LB” and Hattie Ruth Jackson—Shawn learned early the value of unity and togetherness, a lesson that shaped the man he became.
Shawn was educated in the Darlington County Public School System and was raised up in the Second Baptist Missionary Church where he found his spiritual grounding.
Shawn was employed at A.O. Smith Water Heater Company for twenty years. After leaving there, he worked at McDonald’s for five years. He was loved by the young co-workers where they gave him the name Pops or Pa-Pa.
Shawn’s greatest joy was spending time with his family—especially caring for his grandchildren. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan who loved watching football and could often be heard proudly shouting his trademark phrase, "WHO YOU WIT!"
Shawn’s life was centered around his family. He took immense pride in making sure his children were cared for and supported. He leaves behind: his beloved children: Paula D. Wilds, Kelvontay D. Prescott and Corey D. Prescott; stepchildren, Tyquan and Jasmine Scott. His love extended deeply to: his grandchildren, Kenslii D. Prescott and McKenzie A. Brown Wilds, who brought him endless joy and laughter; brothers, Corey E. Prescott (Shenetta) and Windell Jackson; sister, Mazarene M. Prescott; godsister, Michelle Douglas; nieces and nephews: Ashley (Trevor), Courtney, Cory (CJ), Bryce, Bryant (BJ), Kayla, Cylie, Bianca and Tyler; great-nieces and nephews: Gregory, Carter, Cory (Ju Ju), Braxton, Caiya, Ameria, Brynleigh, Camilla, and Chase; aunts: Ethal Mae Jackson, Lillian E. Jackson, Susie Mithelle, Mary Lou Dozier, Retha Mae Green, Mabel Coe, and Katie Mae Jackson, Lorrine Prescott, Sabrina Prescott, Wilhemena Jackson, and Wincy Reed; uncles: Lee Edward Jackson, Alexander (Pa) Prescott, Larry Prescott, Joseph Prescott, Edward Mclaughlin, and Lyde Hawkins; special friend, Joey Black; and a host of other family members and friends.
Shawn was a vibrant and loving soul who cherished his family above all else. He loved to dance, sing, and enjoy life—always the life of the party. You always knew when Shawn was in the room by his infectious energy and his signature call, “WHO YOU WIT!” His legacy is one of love, laughter, and loyalty—a man who lived fully and gave selflessly to those around him. He will be deeply missed.
