Lorine Sutton, Jr. was born on March 11, 1953, in McBee, South Carolina, to the late Lorine Sutton, Sr. and Elease Rodgers Sutton. He departed this earthly life and entered eternal rest on Friday, February 6, 2026, peacefully at home.

June, as he was affectionately called, was educated in Chesterfield County public schools and graduated from McBee High School in 1971. He worked at Kendall’s textile plant in Bethune, later at DuPont and A.O. Smith—where he was among the first supervisors hired—and retired from Sox Farms.

He became a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and was raised on the Charlie Sowell Farm, where he cherished a simple childhood and spending time with his grandmother Maggie, the outdoors, and his siblings.

In his earlier years, June was known as one of the best-dressed men in town. He could often be seen riding through town in his Buick with the sunroof open, dressed in his Sunday best with music playing—especially the smooth sounds of Luther Vandross. He coached recreational basketball for many years, where his teams went on to win Little League championships, and he also played on a competitive adult baseball team.

In his spare time, he enjoyed sitting on the porch, listening to the radio, talking with neighbors, and greeting the mail carrier. He loved watching BET, cheering for the Washington Commanders, and most of all, spending time with family. June never met a stranger and was known for his warm, kind spirit. Later in life, after experiencing health concerns he moved to Columbia to live with his daughter and attended the Prisma PACE Center, where he formed many friendships, enjoyed daily activities and was known to come home with a pocket full of goodies. He was loved by staff and participants. He especially cherished family gatherings and a good plate of fried fish.

June was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved sisters, Alice Sutton, Cherita Linton, and Leslie Newton; and his special cousin, Alfred Jones.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his daughter, Errica (Brittny) Sutton of Columbia, South Carolina; two sons, Wendell (Marsha) Sutton and Curtis (Candice) Sutton, both of McBee, South Carolina; ten grandchildren, Aubrianna Shaw, Zacaria, Jordan, Corin, Curtis Jr., Iyanna, Alshon, and Teegan Sutton, all of McBee, South Carolina, and Justin and Jamiya Bacote of Hartsville, South Carolina; four sisters, Nola Alford, Marlene (Billy) Scott, Patricia Ann Murphy, all of McBee, South Carolina, and Myrtis (James) Boone of Bishopville, South Carolina; three brothers, Charlie Sutton (Dorothy) and James (Vickie) Linton, both of McBee, South Carolina, and David (Laflavia) Linton of Charlotte, North Carolina; along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and dear friends near and far.

Lorine’s life was marked by love for family, kindness toward others, and a quiet strength that will never be forgotten. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
