Hartsville

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Ms. Margaree McFarland.

Ms. McFarland passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:6-7

“One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.” Psalm 27:4

Our loved one, Margaree Dowdy McFarland, went home to be with the Lord. She made her transition on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center under Hospice Care. Because she had fought a good fight, finished her course and kept the faith, she knew it was alright to go home to be with the Lord.

Margaree was born September 29, 1927, in Hartsville, SC. She was raised by Oree Jenkins and Edmond Isaac, Sr. She was educated in the Darlington County Public School System and Kay Branch School. Margaree services in the work industry included: culinary arts at the Lake Shore Restaurant and Carolina Lunch, and environmental services. She retired from Byerly Hospital and then retired a second time from Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center.

Margaree was a lifelong member of Kay Branch Missionary Baptist Church. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved watching westerns, cooking, gardening, and spending time studying and reading the Bible. She was a lover of animals and always kept a cat or dog around the house, she made certain of that, even if we didn’t.

Margaree was preceded in death by: her husband, Jimmy McFarland; parents, Lillie Mae Isaac and Edmond Isaac, Sr.; children: Lawrence Dowdy, Johnny Dowdy, Sr., and James Dowdy, Sr.; siblings: Edmond Isaac, Jr., Alice Isaac, Sara Isaac, George Isaac, Leroy Isaac Waiters, Benny Isaac Waiters and Sara Isaac Waiters; daughters-in-law, Ruby Lee (Willie) Fulmore and Florrie Lee (James) Dowdy; grandchild, Derrick Fulmore; and great-grandchild, Damari Briggs.

Those surviving to cherish and hold onto her memories are: her son, Willie Dowdy of Teaneck, NJ; sister, JoAnne Waiters Moses of Darlington, SC; daughter-in-law, Mary (Johnny) Dowdy of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren: Toni Briggs, Sharon Phillips, LaKendra Brown, Michelle Wesley, Tashia Jacobs, Nathan J. Phillips, Deon Briggs, Lonoia Hawkins, Deon Fulmore, James Dowdy, Jr. and Johnny Dowdy, Jr; and a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

To live in hearts, we leave behind is not to die. Margaree will be missed beyond measure, but we take comfort in knowing her love lives on in every one of us. Goodbye for now, until we meet again.
