We regret to inform you of the passing of Ms. Mary Elizabeth “Temp” Bull King.
Ms. King passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2024, at Mint Hill Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
The family will receive friends at: 1236 East Old Camden Road Hartsville, SC.
Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Mary Elizabeth King, aged 88, transitioned peacefully on September 18, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. Born on March 29, 1936, in Hartsville SC. Mary was a cherished figure in her community and beloved by all who knew her. She attended Rosenwald, Greenhill and Butler schools. She furthered her education by attending South Carolina State University for a brief time.
Mary met and married Weston King Sr. in 1958. She was employed with Mafco now (AO Smith) for a few years. Later she gained employment with First Baptist Church of Hartsville, SC where she later retired after many years of service where she enjoyed cooking. She is well known for her stuffing and gravy (better known as dressing) and tender biscuits.
Mary was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched many lives. She was a dedicated member of the Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she was the Church Mother as well as a member of the choir, kitchen committee and women’s auxiliary. She was a faithful member of the Tears of Joy singing group. Mary’s love for cooking and singing brought great joy to family gatherings and church events alike.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Theo and Albert Bull, her sister Rosa Mae Bull McCain, and her brothers Luke Bull, John Bull, Albert Bull Jr., and grandson David Ham.
Mary is survived by her loving children, Reginald Bull (Hartsville SC), Lillie K. Wyman (Charlotte, NC), Rev. Janice Smith (Charlotte, NC), Luther King (Kendra) (Hartsville SC), and Theola Scott of Charlotte, NC. Her brother Charles James (Florence, SC). She also leaves behind 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, 2 nieces and 3 nephews, cousins, family, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Mary’s life was a testament to her enduring faith and the love she had for her family and friends. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her enduring compassion, and her unwavering support of those she loved. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
