Today, we gather to honor and celebrate the life of Mother Mary Elizabeth Pouncey. Mary, a beloved child of God, lived life with a heart full of faith, reflecting Christ’s love in every action. Whether through quiet acts of kindness or steadfast encouragement, Mary Elizabeth reminded us of the power of God’s grace. Mary fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. We rejoice in knowing that Mary Elizabeth is now at peace in the presence of the Lord, and her legacy of faith will continue to inspire us all.

Mary Elizabeth was born in Darlington, SC on May 20, 1929, to MaeBell Brown Matthews and Weldon Womack. Mary Elizabeth’s life here on earth is over but, her fire in heaven with her beloved Savior Jesus Christ begun on Friday, November 28, 2025.

Mary Elizabeth received her primary education at Pine Forest School in McBee, SC. She had a strong work ethic and as a result, she worked at MAFCO MFG in McBee, SC. She was also employed at Springs Cotton Mill in Lancaster, SC.

Mother Mary Elizabeth was a member of New Nazareth Apostolic Church where she was a church mother. She was faithful to her church, worshipping the Lord and Savior. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will all her heart. She was a great example of being “faithful until the very end.”

Mary Elizabeth was the proud mother of ten children of whom she proudly raised. She found joy in cooking and crossword puzzles, not to mention she loved her grands and great- grands running into her arms, giving her hugs and kisses. Her favorite colors were blue, red and pink. She loved chocolate cake, strawberry and butter pecan. Last but not least, FISHING was her #1 favorite pastime. She would fish from dawn to dusk. One day she caught eighty-seven fish and a Hammer Head Shark!
