It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mr. Matthew Benjamin.
Mr. Benjamin passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at his residence with his family by his side.
The family will receive friends beginning Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 1225 Railroad Avenue, Hartsville, SC.
All services are entrusted to Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.
“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” As we honor our beloved Matthew, may these words bring healing to the hurt that death has wrought.
Matthew has answered the summons that sounds for all people, for we are sojourners upon earth, and our times are in God’s hands.
Matthew Benjamin was born May 19, 1962, in Brooklyn, NY to Ethel Benjamin and departed this earthly life on November 5, 2024, at his residence surrounded and supported by his loved ones.
Matthew received his education in the public schools of Darlington County School. He graduated from Rosenwald High School in Society Hill, SC in 1980. Matthew was a professional truck driver for almost forty years. Over the years, he specialized in Transporting Logging and Cement. He also worked at the Darlington County Landfill.
Matthew confessed his faith for Christ at an early age and became a member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. He frequently attended Liberty Christian Assembly Church (LCAC).
Matthew met Linda A. Benjamin in 2014. On December 9, 2017, Matthew and Linda were united in holy matrimony.
Matthew, “Matt” as he was affectionately called, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Matthew enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was a member of Swerve Ryderz Motorcycle club. He also had a love for cars. His passion was serving the community at his store, Matt’s Groceries. Additionally, he enjoyed spending time with his pet Ziggy, who preceded him in death.
Matthew was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Lula Benjamin; a special uncle, Clarence Stephens; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Surviving to cherish Matthew’s memories are: his mother, Ethel Benjamin; devoted and loving wife, Linda A. Benjamin; children: Matthew Lenard Benjamin, Ricardo (Shatara) Danzell Benjamin, Samantha (Rodney) Graves, Porsha (Joseph) Ward and Joseph (Tamber) Peterson; grandchildren: Trizaria, Ricardo, Masen and Keymoni; nine bonus grandkids: Rodney II, Samiya, Deshawn, Aaliyah, Jah’Air ,Nykkolas, Katalayah, McKenzie, and Josiah; brothers and sisters: Donnell Benjamin (NY), Marshall Benjamin (SC), Terrence (Lisa) Benjamin (PA), Quenton Murreld (SC), and Keyona Brailey (SC); aunts and uncles: Lula Mae Stephens and Ernest Benjamin; special nephew, Marshall Tyson Benjamin; best friend, John Jackson; special cousins: Penny, Robin, and Bebe; and a large host of family and friends.
Rest in peace, Matthew. You will be missed, dearly by all that knew and loved you.
