It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Mr. Moses Smith, Jr.
Mr. Smith passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4
Today we gather to celebrate the life of Moses Smith Jr., a beloved child of God. As Psalm 34:18 reminds us, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Even in our grief, we find hope in the promise of eternal life.
Moses departed this earthly life on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. He was born on December 24, 1951, in Hartsville, SC, the son of Moses and Hattie Smith.
Moses graduated from Rosenwald High School in Society Hill, SC. Following his graduation, he relocated to Baltimore, Maryland where he continued his education at the Community College of Baltimore. He worked as a truck driver for the City of Baltimore for thirty years.
Moses was also a devoted member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a layman and exemplified Christian virtues.
For pleasure, Moses found joy in carpentry work, art, fishing, and baking.
Moses was preceded in death by his siblings: Mildred Smith, Hazel Smith, Mozetta Smith, Priscilla Smith, Samuel Smith, and Emmanual Smith.
Moses leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted and loving wife, Kim Anderson Smith; children: Anthony (Kelley) Jett, Jasmin (Antonio) Smith Cunningham, Justin A. Smith, JoAnna (Kal) C. Smith, Joel (Shanetta) Moses Smith, and Kevin Smith; grandchildren: Meikah, Josiah, Anthony Jr., Khalyie, Tierra, Jayden, Jahyiem, Emmanuel, Jamyya, JoHanna, Kal Jr., Jai-Sean, and Landon; extended grandchildren: Ziyun, Andre Jr., Deanesha, Jaisiah, and Shaniya; great-grandchild, Ze-Meria; siblings: James (Corinthian) Leverne Smith, Albert (Natless) Larry Smith, and Henrietta Smith George; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other close relatives and friends.
Moses is now at eternal rest, living out joy like none of us have ever experienced. As the apostle John said in Revelation: “No more sorrow, no more crying, no more pain, no more death.” These things have all passed away. Moses is now at peace.
