“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13

As we pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven,” we are reminded that our lives rest in God’s loving hands. Today, we celebrate the life of Roger Melvin Graham, Sr. Though we mourn this earthly loss, we find comfort in faith, and gratitude for a life well-lived, and the hope of eternal peace.

Roger Melvin Graham, Sr. was born June 24, 1954, in Darlington County to the late Nero and Essie Mae Graham. He departed this earthly life on September 19, 2026, at his earthly home.

Roger received his primary education in the Darlington County Public School System and was a proud graduate of Rosenwald High School, Class of 1974. Upon graduating, he joined the United States Army. He proudly served his country for seven years and received an honorable discharge. Driven by a desire to advance his education, Roger enrolled at Florence-Darlington Technical College, where he completed a degree in Criminal Justice. He also attended Coker College.

Following his military service, Roger continued his commitment to public service. He dedicated 34 years of faithful service to the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office as Deputy Sheriff. Throughout his career, Roger served his community with commitment and dedication.

Roger attended Hartsville Bible Baptist. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He was baptized and became a member of Union Baptist Church, where the foundation of his Christian faith was established. Later in life, he united with Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where he continued to grow in faith and service. Answering a higher call to Christian leadership, Roger was later ordained as a deacon, faithfully serving God and the church.

In his leisure time, Roger enjoyed his favorite pastimes. Whether he was fishing, gardening, watching sports, or watching Western Movies, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He especially treasured time spent with those he loved, creating memories that will remain in their hearts for years to come.

Roger was preceded in death by: his parents, Nero and Essie Mae Graham; siblings, Lillian Wright and Lucille McDonald; and brother-in-law, Larry Ackwood.

Those left to carry on Roger’s legacy and cherish his memory include: his loving wife, Linda C. Graham; children: Kilwana McDaniel, Carlo Graham, Roger Graham, Jr. and Anastasia Mack; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Khala Graham, Shaquana McDaniel, and Audrina Hough; siblings: John (Lucille) Graham, Raymond (Bobbie) Graham, Henry (Betty) Graham, Nero Graham, Jr., Linda (Terry) Newton, Joyce Graham, Shirlbee Ackwood, Roemae Gilles, and Michael (Vista) Graham; sisters-in-law: Barbara (Alphonza) Damon, Carolyn Wilson, Kathleen Campbell, and Wanda Campbell; brother-in-law, Frankie Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other close relatives and friends.
