Today we honor the life of Taequan Davon Gilmore. Taequan, affectionately known as “Tater” was a remarkable young man with so much yet to give, whose life ended far too soon. Taequan exemplified strength, courage, and unwavering faith throughout his daily life. Though we will miss him greatly, we hold on to the hope that we will see him again in heaven, where he is now with Christ, free from pain and full of eternal peace.
Taequan was born May 9, 1998, in Hartsville SC at Byerly Hospital to Angela Zimmerman and Tyrone Gilmore. He made his heavenly departure on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Memorial Health Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
Taequan received his formal education in Darlington County. He was a 2017 graduate of Darlington High School. During his high school years, he played football and basketball where he was given the nickname “Grasshopper”. Taequan furthered his educational studies at Coastal Carolina University. It was at Coastal Carolina University where he met “His Lady” Derriana Warren.
After college, Taequan relocated to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He was employed by Genesee and Wyoming Railroad, Inc. He was also co-owner of Good 2 Go Transportation.
Taequan was taught early on through the teachings of his grandmother Maudie the love of Jesus. He grew up in a home of deep faith and was taught to love God and trust in His plan. As a child he attended New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life, he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior. He became a member of Palmetto Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jordan Hunter.
Taequan faced life with determination. During his elementary school years, he learned the value of having a strong work ethic under the direction of his paternal grandfather Preston and paternal great uncle Bernard Zimmerman. Taequan was a hard-working young man who just wanted to be successful in life.
Taequan was a constant source of support, love, and encouragement to everyone around him. He loved to cook and eat. He enjoyed playing video games, listening to music, and socializing with “his boys.” His hobbies included showing off his gun collection and shooting, fishing and he was a truck enthusiast. He was a natural “goof ball” and a great storyteller. Most importantly, Taequan adored his family and spending time with family.
When Taequan received the news that he had a brain tumor, he never lost his faith in God. His faith was unshakable. He remained positive and devoted to God, always trusting God’s plan. Through it all, he always thanked God and he knew how blessed he was. He had his outstanding family support system in Hilton Head Island, SC along with his sister, Taqwasha supporting him every step of the way.
Taequan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Preston Zimmerman Sr; paternal grandparents Willie and Diane Gilmore; maternal great grandparent Mary Benjamin Coleman; paternal great grandparents Frank L. Brown, Bernice and Getrude Gilmore; and an Uncle Preston Zimmerman Jr.
Taequan was a blessing to everyone who knew him. He leaves to cherish lasting memories a loving mother Angela Zimmerman; father Tyrone (Paulette) Gilmore; maternal grandmother Maudie Zimmerman; paternal great grandmother Dora Bell Brown; siblings Taqwasha Zimmerman, Jahmal Lyde, Javian Gilmore, Quanta’ (Niesha) Gilmore and Tyonna Gilmore; a special niece Zuri “Z Baby” Gilmore; a supportive uncle whom Taequan was closely connected to Larry (Doreatha) Zimmerman; paternal aunts Sharon Gilmore and Denikki Gilmore; paternal uncle Willie Heroin; special great-aunt Shirley (Charlie) Jackson; great-aunt Maggie Moore; special great-uncle Bernard Zimmerman; Taequan’s home was in Hilton Head Island, SC shared with the love of his life Derriana Warren and his family in love, Melissa Warren, mother; and sisters Alyssa Warren and Alayah Lovine. Along with other close family, relatives and friends.
Although Taequan physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.
