Remembering the Life & Legacy of To Our Sister Tashika McFarland

“Jesus said to her. ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.’” John 11:25-26

Tashika McFarland peacefully embarked on her final journey on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Tashika was born on October 23, 1980, in Laurinburg, North Carolina, to the late James Larry McFarland and Schuyler Peoples McFarland. She was raised in a loving, Christian home where strong faith, family values, and compassion were instilled in her by her parents and grandparents from an early age.

Tashika attended Darlington High School in Darlington, SC. She is an alumna of Class of 1998, where she excelled academically and graduated as one of the top ten students in her class. Throughout her high school years, she remained an honor student and proudly held membership in the National Honor Society. Continuing her educational journey, she furthered her studies at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina.

From a young age, Tashika understood the value of hard work and determination. She began her career at Wendy’s before later working in the Jewelry Department at Wal-Mart locations in Florence and Columbia, South Carolina. Seeking new opportunities and experiences, she eventually relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where she established herself professionally and personally.

While in Atlanta, Tashika was employed with the Municipal Court of Atlanta in the Finance Department as a Court Support Specialist II, a position she faithfully served in for eight years. She was admired for her strong work ethic, professionalism, and dedication — qualities deeply rooted in the values taught to her by her family.

Tashika embraced life fully and enjoyed attending concerts, reading, traveling, shopping, and learning new things. She especially cherished spending time with family and friends and always found joy in helping others. Known for her beautiful spirit and vibrant personality, Tashika took pride in her appearance — her hair, makeup, and stylish outfits always had to be “just right.”

As her health declined, Tashika returned to Darlington, South Carolina, where she was lovingly surrounded by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her father, James Larry McFarland; and grandfathers, Walter McFarland Jr. and Levern Peoples.

Tashika leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories with: her devoted mother, Schuyler L. McFarland; loving and caring sisters, Janesia Yasmine J’Vette McFarland of the home, and Courtney Lucien Davis of Bennettsville, South Carolina; and brother, Jarod Tyrelle McFarland of Timmonsville, South Carolina.

She also leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life: her grandmother, Evester McFarland of Brooklyn, New York; devoted uncle, Gary McFarland (Cynthia) of Charlotte, North Carolina; six aunts, five uncles, three nieces, a host of cousins, and many dear friends

Tashika also shared special bonds with her beloved friends: Gyami Green, April Brown, Shara Dixon, Bridget Johnson and Dr. Shanell Fields.

Though her earthly journey has ended, Tashika’s love, strength, kindness, and beautiful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
