“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Our beloved, Wesley McPhail transitioned on Friday, May 2, 2025, and gained his heavenly wings at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville SC.

Wesley was the son of the late George McPhail and Ehtel Slater McPhail. He was born on May 2, 1936, in Darlington County. There, he was reared up with four siblings, three sisters and one brother.

Wesley attended Rosenwald Elementary School in Society Hill, SC where he was educated. He was employed by Nucor Steel as a dedicated worker for over thirty years until his retirement.

Wesley married Daisy Bell Hawkins, the love of his life. Their union was a blessing both emotionally and spiritually. They had seven children who were all raised in a loving, Christian home. James Wesley was a faithful member of Kay Branch Missionary Baptist Church where he sang on the Men Gospel Choir for many years until his health prevented him for attending service.

In his leisure time, he was busy planting his garden, working and growing beautiful flowers. He found pleasure in cooking delicious meals. His favorite pastime outing was fishing with family and friends. He would sometimes go on boating trips with them to various places fishing. He enjoyed sharing with family and friends the large catches when returning from the trips. He also cooked (fried) turkeys for people in the community as well. He was a loving and caring husband and a wonderful father that enjoyed providing for his family.

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents George and Ehtel S. McPhail; wife Daisy B. McPhail; three sons Curtis McPhail, George McPhail and Jerome Wilds; a brother Willie James McPhail; and three sisters Ethel McPhail, Eva Mae Bull, and Mary McCall.

Wesley will be missed by all those that knew and loved him because of his impact on the lives he touched throughout the years.

Those surviving to cherish his memory are his children Vivian (Jimmy) Peterson of the home, James Wesley (Donnie) McPhail of Columbia SC, Janet Jones of Hartsville SC, Falita (Larry) Jones of the home, Charles (Hattie) McPhail of Hartsville SC; two daughtersin-law Pastor Janie Wilds of Darlington SC and Angel McPhail of Hartsville SC, one brother-in-law Lide (Helen) Hawkins Jr. of Hartsville SC, one sister-in-law Minister Mable Coe of Hartsville SC; twenty-two grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; a special Godson, Hayward Forte; fishing buddies Mr. Harrison, Raymond Graham, Hezekiah Robinson all of Hartsville and William Johnson of Darlington SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends that are going to miss him dearly.
