We regret to inform you of the passing of Mr. Zackery Williams, Jr.
Mr. Williams passed on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia, SC.
Arrangements will be announced by Davis Funeral Home, LLC of Hartsville, SC.
Zackery Williams Jr. was born April 9, 1946 to The Late Reverend Zachary Williams Sr. and The Late Annie Williams Wingate. He graduated from Butler High School, Hartsville South Carolina in the class of 1965. During this time he played on the BHS Band.
Zack entered in the Department of The US Army and was stationed in Panama Canal Zone, Panama.
Zack worked in West Virginia as a brick mason. He was very skilled in making lamps, landscaping and several other jobs.
Additionally he and some of his buddies formed a group called the Twenty Grand. These guys were some of the greatest musicians all around. As many would say “He made that guitar talk.” He was the guitarist for tent services in the Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop J. Howard Sherman in 1967. He played nearly any instrument his hands touched. He would sit at the piano and write songs. He wrote songs and played them on his guitar. He played for The Spiritualites of Columbia, The Columbia Allstars and Bumpsie & the Caravans. Zack was an exceptional and gifted guitarist.
On Monday morning at 6:10 am, Zack entered into peaceful rest at William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Medical Center, Columbia South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Rev. Zachary Williams Sr.; Mother, Annie Williams Wingate; Brothers: John Williams, Bishop James Williams, Elder Elijah Williams, David Williams; Sisters: Mary Alice Williams, Janara Williams, Evangelist Ruby Wingate and Gladys Hicks.
Left to cherish his memory is his brother: Elder George Wingate, Jr. of Hartsville South Carolina; Sister-in-laws, Shirley Williams of Hartsville, South Carolina, Mary P. Wingate of Hillside, New Jersey, Janet Williams-Miller of Orlando, Florida and Patricia Wingate of Sumter, South Carolina; Special Friend, Bernice Johnson of Columbia, South Carolina; a host of special nieces and nephews; and many other loving relatives and friends.
